SILENT AUCTION

Julie Langsam
Acrylic on photograph
13 x 19 inches
Courtesy of the artist
Estimated Retail Value: $850
Starting Bid: $500
Julie Langsam is celebrated for her explorations of Modernism’s formal and conceptual legacy through paintings, drawings, photography, filmmaking, and printmaking that consider evolving ideas of beauty, nature, and progress. Using the landscape as her primary site of inquiry, she synthesizes the romantic sublime of the 19th century with the utopian ambitions of 20th century innovation. Langsam’s recent travels (spanning more than 30,000 miles across the US) focused on land and landscapes as both historical records and active sites of contestation, where notions of sovereignty, agency, ownership, and environmental stewardship shape and reshape our experience of any given place.
