Each session features three nature stations inside moCa and outside our front door in Cleveland Metroparks’ Mobile NatureTracks, alongside an immersive artmaking experience led by Wave Space Studio. Observe, reflect, and create while exploring the shared ground between ecological systems, contemporary art, and everyday experience. June 18, 2026 Freedom Lecture: Dani McClain GET TICKETS at moCa Cleveland Free for all Cincinnati-based author and journalist Dani McClain comes to moCa for an interactive public conversation shaped by the questions at the heart of Homing Instinct: Letting Go of the Shore : What does it mean to belong somewhere? What do we carry across generations? What must we release to move toward the futures we are trying to build? Presented as part of ThirdSpace’s Freedom Lecture series, McClain will draw from her acclaimed writings, including Homing Instinct , her original short story included in Octavia’s Brood , which served as the foundation for Lydia Dean Pilcher’s film of the same name. The gathering will invite audiences into guided conversation, reflection, and shared discovery, setting the frame for a Juneteenth weekend of intergenerational conversation, collective memory, and dreaming out loud. Her work has been recognized by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists and Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and she has received a James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism. McClain is a contributing writer at The Nation . She was a staff reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and has worked as a strategist with organizations including Color of Change and the Drug Policy Alliance. Her book, "We Live for the We: The Political Power of Black Motherhood," was published in 2019 by Bold Type Books and was shortlisted in 2020 for a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. July 11, 2025 Contemporary Art Corridor Walking Tour SIGN UP The Sculpture Center Cleveland Institute of Art Reinberger Gallery moCa Cleveland Free with registration The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (moCa Cleveland), and The Sculpture Center have teamed up to offer a new way to explore and experience exhibitions at these three University Circle institutions. The Contemporary Art Corridor Walking Tour will showcase engaging work by local and international artists who represent diverse backgrounds and artistic practices, along the way providing space for conversation, inviting reflection and inspiring curiosity among participants. AGENDA Staff at each location will briefly introduce their exhibitions, and guests can expect to spend about 30 minutes at each venue to experience and enjoy the artwork. Light refreshments will be served at moCa Cleveland to conclude the tour. PARKING Free parking for the Contemporary Art Corridor walking tour will be available at CIA and The Sculpture Center. May 21, 2026 In Response w/ Art Therapy Studio SIGN UP at moCa Cleveland $5 In Response invites you to engage contemporary art as a starting point for mindfulness, reflection, and meaningful connection at moCa Cleveland. Facilitated by Art Therapy Studio, each session begins with guided time in the galleries, where participants closely observe select works from the exhibitions on view and engage in thoughtful group discussion. Grounded in slowing down and intentional observation, the experience creates space for presence, curiosity, and shared insight. Following the gallery engagement, participants transition into an accessible, hands-on art-making experience focused on process rather than perfection, encouraging creative response, emotional awareness, and self-expression. Offered on the third Thursday of each month until July 2026, the series is designed to be welcoming to both first-time and returning participants, with a consistent structure that fosters ease and belonging. No prior art experience is needed; come as you are, and respond in your own way. A $5 reservation hold will be refunded at check-in. Please note: Eventbrite's processing fees are non-refundable.
