Title Round Whitney Oldenburg Safe and Sound , 2023 Charcoal on paper 26 x 19 ½ inches Courtesy the artist and CHART NY Estimated Retail Value: $4,000 Starting Bid: $2,000 Whitney Oldenburg’s work explores the complex relationship between humans, objects, time, and change in contemporary culture. Incorporating personal belongings and found materials, her monumental, labor-intensive sculptures examine the emotional and psychological weight carried by material possessions, prompting viewers to reconsider how these attachments shape our lives and relationships. In addition to sculpture, Oldenburg’s expressive charcoal drawings also consider accumulation, compression, and entropy, echoing forms that suggest fossils, skeletal structures, and organic growth. Although the title suggests calm, the circling imagery of Safe and Sound alludes to ongoing, even dizzying change. Works like this one reflect on life cycles and the human instinct to preserve and create stability within uncertain conditions and evolving states of nature. +sign up to proxy bid return to auction menu More: Whitney Oldenburg Whitney Oldenburg (b. 1987, Jacksonville, FL; lives and works in New York, NY) received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ideation process? The research that goes behind the work or the tools that contribute to it? How many studio visits have you attended lately?” It’s amazing that we attend our peers’ exhibitions and sometimes hear them discuss the meaning behind a piece while at these shows but how engaged are we when it comes to their studio practice? With this exhibition, we have brought a selection of artists together to collaborate amongst each other. Paired off in groups, artists work together creating pieces that unified their skillsets. Though the artists paired may have different approaches to how they execute specific styles, topics, mark, color, etc., they come together and learn from each other to make masterpieces. Here is the result! Davon Brantley, Curator Presented in partnership w/

- Halim-Flowers | moCa Cleveland
Title Round Halim Flowers Captiva , 2025 Acrylic, oil sticks on canvas 66 x 56 inches Courtesy Halim A. Flowers Estimated Retail Value: $18,000-$28,000 Starting Bid: $9,000 Halim Flowers is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and activist whose paintings convey messages of perseverance, healing, acceptance, and of greatest importance, love. Flowers spent 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit; during his incarceration, he turned to artistic expression as a way to channel his creativity and undergird his resilience. After his release in 2019, his work quickly gained attention for its distinctive balance of emotional vulnerability and radical hope. Influenced by the raw energy of artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, Flowers uses images, text, and forms to develop a distinctive aesthetic language of awareness and resistance that explores systems of power while remaining grounded in love. A signature example, this work’s title suggests imprisonment, but its imagery–including two or more figures and the word CAPITA (“heads” or “individuals” in Latin)–evokes unbound movement and creative energy among connected people. +sign up to proxy bid return to auction menu More: Halim Flowers Halim Flowers (b. 1980, Washington, DC; lives and works in DC) is an artist, rapper, poet, designer, and public speaker. His work has been featured in exhibitions including the Venice Biennale (Personal Structures, 2024, European Cultural Center) and Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration at venues such as MoMA PS1, the The Phillips Collection, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Flowers has presented solo exhibitions internationally, including in Paris, New York, and Liechtenstein, and his work has been shown at galleries and fairs such as the LA Art Show and World Art Dubai. His high-profile collaborations include projects with Warner Bros. for its Centennial celebration and with the British Royal Family for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. A recipient of the Halcyon Arts Lab Fellowship and Echoing Green’s Black Male Achievement Fellowship, Flowers is also the author of numerous books, further extending his multidisciplinary practice and global cultural impact.

A PLACE meant explores innovations in affordable housing at the nexus of environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and contemporary design. Co-organized with Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) and Humanitarian & Founding Principal Sai Sinbondit of I_You Design Lab, the exhibition presents material and image-based examples of accessible housing approaches taking shape across the globe. From modular housing that can be constructed with limited tools to container homes made from existing vessels to 3D printed homes that can be erected in a few days, the exhibition reflects on the city's housing history while encouraging shifts that could make Cleveland a center of design innovation in the future. The exhibition, located throughout moCa’s ground floor from July-December 2024, will be accompanied by a series of free public events and intergenerational education programs to teach about and inspire a commitment to creative affordable housing in our community. How can Cleveland use emerging design solutions to address displacement and affordable housing challenges in our city? This project ties LMM's 55th anniversary and its ever-expanding focus on housing and shelter solutions through pioneering initiatives like Breaking New Ground and the Solar Homes of SC that underscore the importance of collaboration, innovation, and community engagement to address systemic issues. As Cleveland grapples with the challenges of affordable housing and displacement, moCa, LMM, and Sindondit take a proactive design approach to offer dynamic solutions to help create a more inclusive and sustainable future. About Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry Founded in 1969, the mission of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) is to promote shalom (peace, well-being) and justice (right relationship) through a Christian ministry of service and advocacy with those who are oppressed, forgotten and hurting.
