    Title Round Manabu Ikeda Drifter , 2017 Add a Title More: Manabu Ikeda Manabu Ikeda (born 1973 in Saga, Japan) earned his BFA (1998) and MFA (2000) in design from Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2011, he spent a year in Vancouver as an Emerging Artist Overseas Study Grant Recipient from the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 2013, he was awarded a residency at the Chazen Museum of Art to create a new work over three years; he has been based in Madison, Wisconsin since this time. Ikeda has received high acclaim internationally for his unique imagery, which encompasses both the micro and the macro simultaneously, as well as for his masterful technique with ultra-fine pen tips. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Florida, BlackBrain is the child of two immigrants who came to the United States in search of opportunity and met each other while working in the service industry. Growing up in a household where art was a daily presence, BlackBrain pursued his passion for art at the collegiate level, studying Industrial Design at the Cleveland Institute of Art. BlackBrain layers allegory, pop culture, and history to create new and at times, bizarre stories that inflect on the ‘remembered.’ Over the past decade, BlackBrain has been featured in a plethora of shows and has created a range of concentration of subject matter. He has completed a slew of murals worldwide, many of them focused in Los Angeles and Miami, his previous homes.
