Connect more deeply with yourself through a morning yoga session led by Kimberly Russell.
MY VILLAGE YOGA was founded on the idea that the benefits of yoga should be shared with everyone throughout the Cleveland community, regardless of age, gender, body type, race, religion, or socioeconomic level.
A 2014 certified yoga instructor and yoga therapist since February 2020, MY VILLAGE YOGA’s Founder, Kimberly Archibald Russell, began practicing prenatal yoga in 2000. As principal yoga instructor, Kimberly specializes in adapting yoga poses and sequences to provide an enjoyable and beneficial experience for men, women and children of any body type, age or fitness level.
MY VILLAGE YOGA focuses on the primary benefits of regular yoga practice including improved overall health, increased strength, flexibility and balance throughout the life cycle.
In the early years of her yoga practice, Kimberly rarely saw people of color at the studios around Cleveland. It was then that her dream was born, to teach yoga in her Cleveland neighborhood. That dream is now a reality.
Through the ancient African practice of Kemetic yoga, Russell creates a calming space for introspection and supports catharsis and healing. This slow flow yoga is in line with the aims of artist Amber N. Ford's project, Someone, Somewhere, Something.
Someone, Somewhere, Something was developed during Ford's time as moCa's Artist-in-Residence. While in residence, she gathered audience responses about their experiences of loss and trauma. The resulting sound and text-based work encourages more intentional mind-body connections, as does the practice of Kemetic yoga.
