The Cinematheque welcomes MOCA to University Circle with a special showing of Jacques Tati’s epic comedy Playtime [35mm color scope print, 124 minutes]. A masterpiece of spatial cinema, the film portrays Tati’s quaint and klutzy alter ego, Monsieur Hulot, who finds himself trapped in a maze of modernist glass-and-steel buildings on the outskirts of Paris. Though the movie skewers the 1960s architecture and technology, it is also joyous and celebratory. Playtime climaxes in a hilarious set piece centered on the grand opening of a swanky new nightspot where conviviality and humanity triumph over pretentiousness and imposed order. Originally shot in 70mm, and costing (and losing) millions, Playtime is one of the grandest visions ever committed to celluloid.

Guests can bring their ticket stubs to MOCA anytime the following week, October 21-28, to receive 50% off museum admission.
