Co-presented with Tri-C

Acclaimed composer, performer, and violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) unveils the world premiere concert of his songbook, Gilgamesh on the Crooked River. Co-presented with Tri-C, this exclusive concert features a rousing combination of violin, bass, drums, grand piano, and four exceptional singers.  This inaugural concert event, which includes an improvisational piece that responds to MOCA’s new building, will energize the audience and fill the space with dramatic sound.

In 2011, Tri-C commissioned DBR to create the Gilgamesh on the Crooked River Songbook, a collection of 14 contemporary songs inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh.  As composer-in-residence, DBR worked with area professional musicians, Tri-C faculty, and students in various departments to record the songbook last fall at the Center for Creative Arts on the Metropolitan campus. In April 2012, Tri-C held a program of student adaptations of the songbook that concluded with a rousing collaborative performance of Come Together conducted by DBR.

DBR is an internationally-recognized musician whose resume ranges from performances with eminent philharmonics to duets with pop stars like Lady Gaga on American Idol. To learn more about this exciting artist, visit his website: http://www.dbrmusic.com/bio.htm

Listen to this song by DBR, performed by students at Cuyahoga Community College.

This concert will be the first time DBR performs Gilgamesh on the Crooked River with his band. The full songbook will be performed each night; only the pre-concert improvisational performance will vary between the nights. During the pre-concert performances, audience members are encouraged to move throughout the space and experience the sounds from various locations. Because the concert engages the entire museum space and has limited seating, MOCA will be open only to concert-goers from 7 - 10pm on Thursday, October 18 and Friday, October 19.
