Emilie Gossiaux's joyful, autobiographical works like this new drawing, Whitecane Maypole Dance with Doggirls, invite us into an intimate, delightful world created from the artist’s cherished memories, dreams, and experiences. Like so many of her works, this captivating drawing celebrates the artist’s profound bond with her retired Guide Dog, London, who was Gossiaux’s companion for years after she lost her vision in 2010. Sculptures based on London were included in moCa’s acclaimed, fall 2023 exhibition Don't mind if I do, and Gossiaux also focused on London in her recent fellowship and acclaimed solo exhibition Other-Worlding at the Queens Museum that will soon travel to Kunsthall Trondheim.
