Job objective

The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) supervises the human resource processes at moCa Cleveland. The HRG administers employee health and welfare plans in accordance with federal and state regulations and acts as liaison between employees and insurance providers, resolving benefits-related problems and ensuring effective use of plans and positive employee relations. The HRG also manages staff recruitment, orientation, development, and termination. This position supports record keeping, file maintenance, and HR data entry, working with the Controller to ensure all payroll and accounting checks and balances.


This role will also assist with some accounting and administrative functions to including clerical, bookkeeping, and accounting assignments and prepare accounting statements and financial reports.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Effectively manage employee pre-boarding and onboarding by following the new hire workflow based on the job being filled. Ensure a complete and orderly file (paper & electronic) to ensure documentation is available for review by applicable regulatory bodies.

  • Schedule and coordinate new hire orientation with new hires and internal staff participating in training topics. Present training topics when an assigned presenter is unavailable. Quickly adjust the day based on needs.

  • Record and manage employee information in appropriate databases(Quickbooks) to ensure accuracy, including but not limited to, personal data, compensation, benefits, attendance, and termination information. Compiles reports from the database. Seeks opportunities for automation and employee self-service.

  • Coordinate organization-wide employee recognition and peer recognition programs and ensure a high-quality experience for employees being recognized.

  • Conduct regular audits on staff files, HRIS data, and benefit elections. Work closely with team members to validate information and make appropriate changes, when necessary. Identify process improvement if necessary.

  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.

  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.

  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files. 

  • Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.

  • Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.

  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by the hiring manager.

  • Process invoices for the HR department by adding department information to ensure accuracy and timely payment to vendors. 

  • Makes photocopies; mails, scans, and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions.

  • Files documents into appropriate employee files.

  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.


Accounting responsibilities

  • Assists with data entry of invoices, credits, etc. as needed.

  • Acts as backup for processing payroll and prepares necessary payroll reports.

  • Acts as backup for credit card processing and bank deposits and check payment processing.

  • Assists with annual audit documentation and support. 

  • Assists controller with scanning invoices, credit card receipts and other employee expense records. 

  • Assists with generating financial reports for other departments as needed. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications



  • Associate degree in human resources or related field required

  • SHRM-CP credential preferred


Qualifications & required skills

  • At least three years’ direct experience required 

  • Proficient understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software required; experience with QuickBooks preferred

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • Knowledge of spreadsheets and QuickBooks software.

Physical demands

  • Employee will be required to use a computer and other devices such as phones or tablets to monitor digital platforms

  • Must be able to file materials   

  • Employee frequently will be required to actively listen and exchange information in-person, by phone, and computer

  • Employee may be required to be stationary for extended periods of time

  • Employee will be required to move through the office and museum

  • Employee may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends

Working environment

  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation 

  • Must be comfortable working in an open office environment; cubicle free 

  • Hybrid Remote Work Arrangement (RWA) is available for this position
