Job objective

The Digital Communications Manager (DCM) for moCa Cleveland applies industry best standards and practices alongside skilled awareness of the digital landscape to support the museum’s external communications and outreach work on all digital platforms. The DCM drives museum awareness and engagement by developing, delivering, and monitoring content on a variety of digital platforms including social media, website, and email marketing. The position also serves as a project manager to monitor and ensure completion of digital marketing projects across departments including Curatorial, Engagement, and Development. The DCM supports the updating and monitoring of the museum’s website and assists with coordination of internal digital engagement led by the Marketing & Communications department. The DCM assists the Creative Director with template design projects relating to digital engagement.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Develops, executes, and monitors content to promote moCa’s programs and initiatives on the museum’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

  • Administers the internal social media calendar, including scheduling posts, and sourcing, writing, and/or assisting in the editing of content.

  • Helps develop metrics to evaluate effectiveness of social media tactics and tracks and reports outcomes.

  • Makes informed, strategic recommendations for adjustments or platform shifts based on moCa’s goals and capacity.

  • Assists Creative Director in the design of social media posts and website pages, utilizing existing content management software to create and manage website content

  • Tracks and reports on website metrics using Google Analytics.

  • Supports the creation and distribution of regular e-blasts to moCa stakeholders using moCa’s preferred management software (currently Mail Chimp) to design and broadcast email communications.

  • Optimizes emails for visitation and sales conversions.

  • Helps to manage cross-departmental projects involving social media or digital platforms, including facilitating the development of required content, ensuring deadlines, and providing and analyzing results as appropriate.

  • Uploads exhibition and program information to external event websites such as Facebook, Eventbrite, and digital calendars

  • Provide writing and editing support for all outbound communications.

  • Attends many moCa programs to assess outreach success and provide live social media updates as required and appropriate.

  • Provides staff support to marketing and other departments as needed.

Education:

Four-year degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field preferred; candidates without four-year degrees must demonstrate equivalent experience

Working conditions:

Flexible schedule with regular weekend hours and some evenings required.

Required:

  • 2+ years professional level experience working directly in marketing and communications

  • 2+ years professional level experience managing social media and/or digital marketing and communications

  • Demonstrated professional success using social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to drive action by consumers/audiences

  • Some experience with graphic design, specifically digitally-based design outcomes

  • Experience writing about or developing content for cultural or arts-based programming preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of social media and media management platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Hootsuite.

  • Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, MailChimp (or equivalent), Eventbrite, Google Analytics

  • Outstanding organization and coordination skills, including attention to detail in editing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to edit long form writing into shorter e-communications

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Google products (gmail, etc).

  • Basic video editing, video asset knowledge preferred

  • Some experience coordinating media tours and/or influencer-focused events useful but not required

  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in more than one language an advantage

Physical Demands:

  • Employee may be required to be stationary for extended periods of time

  • Employee will be required to move through the office and museum

  • Employee will be required to use a computer and other devices such as phones or tablets to monitor digital platforms

  • Employee frequently will be required to actively listen and exchange information in-person, by phone, and computer

  • Employee may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends in relation to programs

Work Environment:

  • This position allows for a hybrid of remote and in-office work

  • Must be comfortable working in an open office environment; cubicle free
