MAKE MOCA CLEVELAND YOUR FAMILY OUTING. Family programs at MOCA Cleveland fuel creativity and imagination, bringing families and new art together in a safe and welcoming environment. The Museum's family programs are designed to cultivate life-long museum engagement by first introducing art and museums to toddlers and children and then progressing into deeper and broader art experiences with young adults. At each step, the Museum encourages parents and grandparents to be part of the process, learning and growing together. This intentionally comprehensive approach engages families with kids of every age at appropriate developmental stages to make today’s art accessible, inspirational, and fun.
In addition to the ArtSquad, some of MOCA Cleveland’s family offerings include:
STROLLER TOURS (FAMILIES WITH 0 - 3 YEAR-OLDS)
Want to transform your childcare routine a bit? This monthly docent-led tour is designed as creative and intellectual fuel for parents and caregivers whose little ones aren’t ready for museum experiences of their own. Conversations about the art speak to the adult while being mindful of the patience and understanding necessary for keeping baby happy. Meet other young families, take a break at the Café Kiosk, and shop for kid-friendly design items in the Museum Store all before a mid-day nap.
Preschool Play Dates (FAMILIES WITH 4 - 5 YEAR-OLDS)
We invite preschoolers to MOCA to laugh, investigate, and enjoy today’s art! This 45-minute play date leads little ones and a parent or caregiver into the galleries and then onto the art studio for games, stories, and hands-on experiences informed by Early Learning Standards. The activities develop young minds for looking and responding to visual images and ideas. Monthly themes and activities rotate to reflect the art on view and multiple visits are welcomed.
TINKER SPACE (KIDS 8 YEARS AND OLDER)
Boost creativity, awaken wonder, and experiment with the artistic process in this monthly program especially for tweens and teens. Using unlikely and diverse materials, tinkerers are presented with a challenge inspired by the art on view. Tinkerers work both collaboratively and independently to reimagine, reorder, and modify familiar objects and supplies in an open, experimental way. These hands-on challenges emphasize process over product, allowing young minds to take courageous creative risks. One parent or caregiver may attend with their tween tinkerer to discover new ways to approach problem solving and fuel curiosity.
FAMILY FUN DAYS (FAMILIES WITH KIDS 12 YEARS AND UNDER)
Families take over MOCA Cleveland during these art-inspired, art-making seasonal events. With activities ranging from hands-on projects, artist demonstrations, guided tours, and gallery games, Family Fun Days offer an excellent introduction to the Museum and its family offerings.
MOCA SPROUTS (PRE-K KIDS)
Ever wonder how art and creative play enhance a toddler’s cognitive, emotional, and social development? At these educational and experiential programs, leaders in early childhood learning and development present research and practical tips for nurturing imagination, inventiveness, and communication skills in babies and young children.
