BE A DOCENT
MOCA CLEVELAND DOCENTS CONNECT PEOPLE WITH ART. Join the museum’s most committed and enthusiastic volunteer group. Docents are powerful ambassadors for the museum’s mission, directly and deeply influencing visitor experience at MOCA Cleveland. As volunteer museum educators, MOCA Cleveland docents guide groups of all ages through meaningful interactions with the art on view. Using museum-taught skills and techniques, MOCA Cleveland docents share today’s art with visitors by guiding observation and response, offering creative problem-solving opportunities, and inspiring moments of wonder.
Ideal candidates possess a love of learning and are driven by curiosity, invigorated by change, and energized by conversation. MOCA Cleveland docents are needed primarily for weekday tours, but weekend and occasional evening tours provide working professionals and college students the opportunity to be part of this special volunteer group.
Active docents are required to attend seasonal exhibition education meetings, prepare tour materials at home, and lead a minimum of four tours per month to qualify for benefits. Active docents receive an individual level museum membership, discount in the museum store, access to museum staff and exhibiting artists, and have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from other like-minded curious and creative adults. New docent orientation is every September, though applications are reviewed monthly and anyone interested is encouraged to apply at any time.
