MOCA is looking for creative, personable, go-getters to help us with our day to day operations and beyond. Get behind-the-scenes access to MOCA and share your love and enthusiasm for art with others. Volunteer at the museum and you can become part of our mission to connect people through the art and ideas of our time.

As a volunteer, you’ll place yourself in Cleveland’s cutting edge cultural scene, experience amazing art, attend engaging events, meet interesting people, and learn marketable skills. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in a variety of areas including visitor services, education, development/membership, security, events, and the Museum store. 

Daytime and evening hours are available on both a regular and on-call basis during the week and on the weekends.

AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: 

  • CULTURAL CONCIERGE

Make someone's day with your vibrant personality. Greet visitors to MOCA and orient them to the building and visitor amenities. Be on hand to answer questions about current and upcoming exhibitions and programs and direct visitors to other area attractions. Requires a warm, professional public presence and excellent customer service skills; must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors and have the ability to stand/walk for 3 hours at a time. Required training provided by MOCA. 

Minimum commitment: 3 hour shifts on a weekly basis; daytime, evening, and weekend hours available.

  • MOCA MAGNET
MOCA is seeking enthusiastic contemporary art lovers to actively promote MOCA’s Membership program and serve as an overall MOCA-nector, providing information about MOCA and membership benefits. Membership Volunteers perform a variety of tasks related to promotion and sales at events, including Exhibition Openings. Duties include greeting patrons, answering questions regarding MOCA’s Membership and Curatorial programs, and encouraging patrons to purchase new or renew existing membership’s onsite. 
 
Minimum Commitment: 3 hour shifts on a weekly basis; daytime, evening, and weekend hours available.
  • DESIGN MAVEN
Surround yourself with designs of distinction at MOCA’s Museum Store. The Museum Store is the place for upbeat, chic people with outstanding customer service skills. Store associates provide many services including sales, maintaining the neat appearance of the store, pricing, and restocking shelves. Candidates must be dependable and tactful under pressure. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
 
Minimum Commitment: 3 hour shifts on a weekly basis; daytime, evening, and weekend hours available.
  • SHINDIGGERS
Help MOCA host premiere events and programs such as lectures, musical / theatrical performances, and exhibition opening celebrations. Depending on your strengths and interests, there is a volunteer position for you. Greet guests, take tickets, usher, check coats, gallery attendant, and assist staff with setup. Physical requirements may include standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.
 
Minimum commitment: One event per month; evenings and weekends.
  • LOGISTICS WHIZ [Public Programs]
The planning, marketing, and implementation of MOCA programs play a critical role in the success of an event.  Become part of the energetic team that turns a program manager’s vision into reality.  Tasks include setting up chairs, tables, AV equipment, and handing out flyers/posters around the community.  Physical requirements may include standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 25 lbs.
 
Minimum commitment: One event per month; evenings and weekends.
  • MOCA AMBASSADOR [Docent]

    Docents are powerful ambassadors for the museum’s mission, directly and deeply influencing visitor experience at MOCA Cleveland. As volunteer museum educators, MOCA docents guide groups of all ages through meaningful interactions with the art on view. Using museum-taught skills and techniques, MOCA docents share today’s art with visitors by guiding observation and response, offering creative problem-solving opportunities, and inspiring moments of wonder. Minimum Commitment: shifts on a weekly basis; daytime, evening, and weekend hours available.
