Are you a self-professed “Sneakerhead” with an untouchable Air Jordan collection? Or a Hypebeast that cops the latest collaboration drops? Perhaps an aspiring sneaker designer looking to improve your practice? Even if you just like quality shoes, Soles On View is for you.

Love them or hate them, sneakers are a key symbol of contemporary American culture, viewed by many as wearable art as fit for red carpet runways and museum exhibitions as for the court.
They also have become material and subject matter for many contemporary artists.

Artists on Art are monthly talks by local artists who use their own mediums, subjects, and processes to interpret an artwork on view in MOCA's exhibitions. For this event, Gianna Commito will discuss the site-specific murals by Claudia Comte on view in the Museum's free ground level. Commito is a painter whose work references the patterns and conditions of urban architecture and the built environment.

Surrounded by her massive wall painting Zigzags and Diagonals (2018), Claudia Comte will reflect on her approach to creating responsive, large-scale murals and installations that transform natural and architectural environments. Although Comte’s work often concentrates on line, form, and color, historical references abound in her practice. As Artforum states, she is an artist with “extraordinary craft” who “toys with the viewers sense of space” through her dynamic use of elements and tools.
