The Uptown Launch Pad: What::Where::When:: WHY?

anri-sala%201.jpg

This Summer MOCA presents an ensemble of three architecturally oriented exhibitions in celebration of its new building initiative and the emergence of Uptown - a burgeoning arts and retail district in University Circle which MOCA will soon call home. This blog debuts as an extension of the Summer Season's many offerings, specifically focusing on an installation called The Uptown Launch Pad.

Currently on view at MOCA, The Uptown Launch Pad is an evolving and improvisational environment which invites audiences to witness and respond to the incubation of projects currently under development in Uptown. MOCA has solicited a variety of stakeholders and designers associated with these initiatives to submit materials for installation in the Launch Pad. These materials are presented in an unfiltered manner and will be updated throughout the course of the Summer Season as new information becomes available. The first wave of material received thus far expresses the very germinal state in which many of these projects exist.

We invite you to track the evolution of this exhibition by accessing this blog and visiting the Launch Pad often. But most of all, we seek your reactions to the materials exhibited. Please use this blog to voice your opinions as topics will be introduced over the course of the next 15 weeks to help frame and propel discussion.

CONCEIVED as a living laboratory, resource portal, and inviting lounge, The Uptown Launch Pad will introduce audiences to the concept of "Uptown" as it catalogs the incredible waves of change occurring in University Circle, offering emerging up-to-the-minute information regarding MOCA's new building, the University Arts and Retail District master plan as well as several tranformational projects iniated by the Cleveland Institute of Art, University Circle Incorporated, Case Western Reserve University, and the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority.

You are invited to dialogue with MOCA Cleveland's Blog during two "Live" nights in our galleries, the first night, Thursday, July 26 will give you an opportunity to discuss your views on urbanism, architecture, and the built environment. Between 12pm - 2pm, Co-Curator Bill Mason will be available in "real time" to answer some of your questions, and comments. Please check our events page on this website for more information about our exciting, insightful, and ground-breaking exhibition season.
